Dear Friends.......
At the time of writing this piece for the March edition of The Record, the calendar has only just turned over to February. What a mixture of weather we are having - pouring with rain one minute and then a beautiful rainbow appears – although we should be thankful that we are much better off than a lot of places in the UK and elsewhere in the world. It’s really hard, sometimes, trying to think of Spring and Summer with the nicer weather and it’s certainly hard to imagine t

Dear Friends.......
I know it’s nearly February – and, indeed, some of you may not be reading this until it is February – but as this is the first issue of The Record that has been produced this year, it feels right to say Happy New Year to you all. It is a habit of mine to make a note of inspirational sayings or pieces of text I come across, be they in the books I’m reading, the television programmes I’m watching, or from the radio or training courses I happen to be on. The one below came

Junior Church Session: Mary, Joseph and the Journey to Egypt
At our Junior Church session on Sunday 11 January, the children explored the story of Mary and Joseph’s flight to Egypt, reflecting on what it meant to leave home suddenly and travel to an unknown place. Together, the group made thoughtful links between this Bible story and the experiences of modern-day refugees and asylum seekers. Through discussion and hot seating , the children imaginatively stepped into the shoes of those on the journey, asking questions and sharing ideas

Dear Friends.......
‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Glory to the new-born king’ As the Hebrews sang in Egypt, it’s hard to sing the Lord’s song in a strange land. Jesus knew all about strange lands, he ended up in Egypt after he was born, to escape Herod. Sometimes we are taken to a place we don’t know, even at Christmas time. Of course, while we have strangeness around us, we can hold onto something that is familiar to us: Christmas and the coming of the Lord Jesus. The story of Christ’s bir
