On a day filled with meaning, emotion, and faith, Rev Susan Knight was ordained and inducted as a Minister of Word and Sacraments at Reigate Park Church. It was a moment to reflect on a journey of calling, preparation, and trust in God’s purpose. Below, Susan shares her thoughts and feelings from this deeply personal and spiritual occasion — a day marked by joy, gratitude, and the reassurance of God’s guiding presence.
Where can I begin to describe my Ordination and Induction? It was a day of very mixed emotions including: Nerves - which was only natural because if I didn’t have any nerves then why was I doing this?Joy - that after such a long time and yes, hard work, I was finally being ordained and inducted as a Minister of Word and Sacraments.Thankfulness – for so many people at the service sharing in the worship and also for the 86 who logged on remotely.
For Rev Russell Furley-Smith who led the service so beautifully and putting everyone, especially me at ease. To all those who took part and for those who were instrumental in making it all happen. To my daughter Charlotte and her team who gave us such good refreshments after the service. Sadness – that some family and friends, no longer with us could not be part of this special occasion but I know they were with me in spirit. Humbling – to think that God was calling me to serve Him in this way.
I listened to God’s call and found however hard I tried; I couldn’t ignore it. And of course, He calls each one of us to use the gifts He has given us, all different but all as important as the other. When we look at the passage from 1 Corinthians 12 it tells us that we have all been given Spiritual Gifts and together we form one body. Each of us with our own gifts form the body of Christ at Reigate Park and by answering God’s call and then working together we can achieve great things.I ask you then, to listen for that call, to answer it, and you will be amazed at what you can achieve, not on your own but with Him alongside you every step of the way. Finally, make the time to ask yourself the question; What is God calling me to do?
God Bless
Rev Susan Knight
