Apart from going to Reigate Park to worship, I also go to be part of the community, the Church Family that welcomes me and helps and supports me, and each other, in that worship. It’s something that I almost take for granted, but it was visibly demonstrated at the service this morning (15th June).
There were less people there than usual. It was Father’s Day and the London to Brighton Bike Ride made travel more difficult. Some were on holiday or had other things arranged. Some were unwell. The sun was out! So different roles like readings and offertory collection had already been shared out amongst the congregation there.
Then, for various reasons, the visiting minister was delayed. What could be done! Fortunately, Reigate Park has Emergency Services prepared in advance for just such an occasion and these are regularly updated. There were volunteers to help and the service started just a few minutes late. The minister arrived in time to give the sermon and the two service parts segued into one.
The Bible often mentions helping, giving and serving each other on behalf of the Lord: Luke 6:38 ‘Give, and it will be given to you’, Luke 6:31 ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you’.
There is always something to be done to keep Reigate Park functioning, both physically and spiritually. Could you use the ‘gifts’ you have been given to help? That could be by becoming an Elder, taking on a role in the church or just being available to do some emergency shopping if somebody is ill.
Oh, and it's fun to be part of this Community --
