One year on!

 

This time last year I was preparing for my Ordination and Induction at Reigate Park on 6th September – creating an Order of Service, choosing hymns and who would be doing what within that service, what else needed to be done and so on.

 

Looking back, where has that year gone? 

 

These are some of the things I have done during the year:

  • Led worship at Reigate Park, mainly twice a month but sometimes more

  • Accepted invitations to lead worship in other churches

  • Introduced a Blue Christmas Service

  • Led some of the Easter & Christmas Services

  • Brought people into Church Membership

  • Conducted funerals

  • Led a blessing of a young child

  • Overseen Pastoral Care which included giving Home Communion for those who can’t make it to church now.

  • Led a monthly Communion service at Beaumont Nursing Home

  • Led an information session with the Link People

  • Co-led a workshop for the Pastorate on Leading Worship

  • Represented Reigate Park on a number of Pastorate Groups


When you start listing things you’ve done it’s quite an eye-opener and makes you

realise how busy you’ve been!


However, I would like to say that it is both a privilege and a pleasure to serve you

as a Minister of Word and Sacrament at Reigate Park, a Church Family that I have

been part of since a child.  Ministry has been something that has been in the

background for a long time, and thought would never happen.  You just never

know!

 

God has a plan for all of us as it says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

 

I used this text as part of a sermon recently in the context of the Blessing of a young child where we focused on the life ahead for a child, explaining that from the time of their birth and throughout theirs and our lives, God has a plan for each of us according to the gifts and talents he has so generously given us.  And always remembering that everything is in God’s time.

 

So whatever age you are, God has a plan for you.  It doesn’t have to be a big thing, it may be small like making a telephone call, sending a card, a letter or an email but nonetheless just as important and worthy.  There is one thing that we can all be certain of and that is that whatever God calls you to do He will give you the strength, support and knowledge and moreover will stand by you as you seek to do His will.
