At our Junior Church session on Sunday 11 January, the children explored the story of Mary and Joseph’s flight to Egypt, reflecting on what it meant to leave home suddenly and travel to an unknown place.

Together, the group made thoughtful links between this Bible story and the experiences of modern-day refugees and asylum seekers. Through discussion and hot seating, the children imaginatively stepped into the shoes of those on the journey, asking questions and sharing ideas about fear, hope, and trust in God.

Creativity played a big part in the session. The children painted friendship pebbles as a sign of welcome and kindness, and worked together on a diorama using messy play and natural materials to represent the long journey from Bethlehem to Egypt. The room was full of colour, curiosity, and conversation.

Junior Church continues to be a space where children can explore faith in hands-on, meaningful, and age-appropriate ways, connecting Bible stories with the world around them.
