This Sunday our service will be led by Revd Jenny Mills, URC Secretary for Education & Learning. Here is a little bit about Jenny, for those who don't know her: "The Revd Jenny Mills was a member of Reigate Park URC aged 16 and went off to College at 18 and has been a frequent visitor on and off for the last 40 years! She trained as a Primary School teacher and, after 21 years, responded to a call on her life and was Ordained as a URC Minister of the Word and Sacraments. She served in pastoral ministry for 12 years and for the past 3 years has served as Secretary for Education and Learning for the URC, where she works with our Resource Centres for Learning and those responsible for training in Synods, overseeing learning and training in the URC. Jenny lives with her husband, Aldam (a Special Needs teacher and Assistant Head), in Milton Keynes and has 3 grown up children- Harriet, a Primary School teacher; Abby, a Shopper Marketing Manager for a company selling beauty and cleaning products; and AJ, a Production Manager for an Events company." The theme of Jenny's service will be "Journeying". Matthew 22.15-22
Jewish leaders seek to entrap Jesus with a question about allegiance to the emperor and to God. Jesus counters with a carefully worded answer: give to each what they are due. The leaders are amazed at his teaching and leave him alone – for now. Religious leaders pose challenging questions to Jesus, testing his position to civil and Jewish Law. Jesus’ response to those leaders challenges us about our responses to giving and stewardship as we explore what it means to be a child of God.
